Wild River State Park follows 18 miles of the St. Croix River in a shape like a sideways "S," with most development in the lower third and remote sections near the mouth of the Sunrise River. It's managed for quieter recreation than the busier William O'Brien and Interstate state parks downstream, and preserves a stretch of an 1853 military road on the National Register of Historic Places.
