Cancellation Policy
Last updated: September 3, 2026
1. Which policy applies to your booking
Every listing carries one of five cancellation policies, chosen by the Vendor. The policy is shown on the listing and again at checkout, and the one in force when you booked is the one that governs your booking; a Vendor changing their policy later does not change yours. This page forms part of our Terms of Service.
2. The five policies
Timing is measured against the start of the rental (pickup):
Flexible
Full refund when you cancel at least 1 day before pickup.
72-hour
Full refund when you cancel at least 72 hours (3 days) before pickup; no refund after that.
Moderate
Full refund when you cancel at least 5 days before pickup; 50% refund after that.
Strict
50% refund when you cancel at least 7 days before pickup; no refund after that.
Non-refundable
No refund. This booking cannot be refunded once booked.
When a listing does not state a policy, Moderate applies.
Once the rental has started, nothing is refundable. A cancellation made at or after the scheduled pickup time returns nothing under every policy above, including Flexible.
3. Service fees
The Splitt service fee is charged on top of the rental price and is shown separately at checkout. How it is treated on a cancellation depends on the size of the refund:
- Full refund: everything you were charged comes back, including the service fee and every other line on your receipt.
- Partial refund: the policy percentage applies to the rental price only, the discounted nightly/daily rate you were quoted. The Splitt service fee, any protection-plan premium, the delivery fee, and any add-ons are not refunded, in whole or in part.
- No refund: nothing is returned, including the service fee.
Before you confirm a cancellation we show you the exact amount you will get back, calculated from your booking's policy and its payment state. Refunds go to your original payment method and typically appear within 5–10 business days, depending on your bank.
4. If you have not been charged yet
A cancellation policy only decides what happens to money that was actually taken. If your card was authorized but not yet charged, cancelling simply releases the hold; if nothing was ever charged, there is nothing to refund. In both cases you can cancel at no cost, whatever tier the listing carries.
Your booking is confirmed the moment your payment completes, with no waiting on approval. If you start checkout and never complete payment, no booking is created and nothing is charged.
5. Cancellations by the Vendor or by Splitt
If a Vendor cancels a confirmed booking, or Splitt cancels it (for example, because a listing was removed or a safety issue was identified), you are refunded in full, including the service fee. The tiers above govern your cancellations only.
6. Security deposits and incidental charges
A cancellation releases any security-deposit hold placed for that booking. It does not waive incidental charges already owed for a rental that took place. See Terms of Service §6 for how deposits and incidental charges work.
