About Split Rock Creek State Park

Split Rock Creek State Park in Ihlen, just south of Pipestone, centers on a lake the WPA created in 1938 by damming the creek with locally quarried Sioux Quartzite, bringing water recreation to a part of Minnesota with few natural lakes. A nearby WPA-built bridge of the same stone, carrying County Road 54 over the creek, is listed on the National Register of Historic Places.
