Blue Mounds State Park near Luverne protects a bison herd grazing one of Minnesota's largest prairie remnants, beneath a pink Sioux Quartzite escarpment that looks blue from a distance. Cliffs up to 100 feet high draw rock climbers, and a 1,250-foot line of stones placed by Plains Indians marks sunrise and sunset on the spring and fall equinoxes.
