About Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area

Iron Range Off-Highway Vehicle State Recreation Area occupies 1,864 acres of former iron mining land near Gilbert, worked until 1981, now laced with 36 miles of trails for off-highway motorcycles, Class I and Class II ATVs, and off-road vehicles. A 3,500-acre expansion is planned. Minnesota is one of only three states, with California and Utah, to maintain a state-run off-road recreation area.
