About Hill-Annex Mine State Park

Hill-Annex Mine State Park, a former unit north of Calumet, interpreted the open-pit iron mining history of the Mesabi Range and gave access to fossils in the Cretaceous-era Coleraine Formation. Mining from 1913 produced 63 million tons of ore, Minnesota's sixth-largest total, before the state bought it for $1 and made a museum of its 1915 community club, later naming it a state park in 1988.
