How to handle this gear. Worth a read before you book.

Safety First

•Your motorhome is taller than you think. Always check overhead clearance at gas stations, parking decks, and tree-lined roads, and never assume a posted clearance accounts for rain or repaving.
•Carbon monoxide can build up from the generator, furnace, or stove. Never run the generator while sleeping with all windows closed, and check the CO detector battery at pickup.
•Propane is flammable. Turn the main tank valve off while refueling or driving, and never use open flame appliances inside the RV.

Pre-Trip Walkthrough

1Take a full 15 minute walkaround with the owner before leaving. Photograph any existing scratches, dings, or roof damage on your phone for your own records.
2Learn the locations of the generator, propane tank, water fill, city water hookup, electrical hookup, and dump valves. Walk through hooking up and unhooking utilities at the campsite before your first stop.
3Check tire pressure, oil, coolant, and windshield washer fluid. Make sure the awning is fully retracted, the antenna is lowered, and the entry steps are up before driving.
4Locate the fire extinguisher, carbon monoxide detector, and LP gas leak detector. Confirm they are functional and note their locations.

Driving the Conquest

1Adjust your mirrors including the large convex spotter mirrors before pulling out. Use them constantly, especially on the passenger side where blind spots are huge.
2Watch the height carefully. Your Conquest is around 12 feet tall. Avoid drive-throughs, low bridges, gas station canopies, and tree branches without checking clearance first.
3Take wide turns and swing wide on left hand turns so the rear does not clip curbs. Back into campsites rather than pulling in forward whenever possible.
4Use the side mirrors as a parking guide when pulling forward. Stop when the rear bumper is just past the parking line marker, not when the front of the cab reaches it.

Living Onboard

1Empty the gray and black water tanks at every travel day and whenever they reach two thirds full. Use only RV safe toilet paper and never put wipes, feminine products, or food down the toilet.
2Run the generator for 2 to 3 hours daily even with shore power to keep the house batteries topped off. AC units draw heavy power, so run the microwave and hair dryer one at a time to avoid tripping breakers.
3Keep the fridge stocked with cool items before turning on propane mode, and travel with propane turned off at the tank as a safety default.
4Ventilate the cabin whenever cooking or using the furnace, and never run the generator while sleeping in the RV with windows closed.

Return Prep

1Dump both the black and gray water tanks and flush them with fresh water. Rinse the sewage hose and stow it back in its compartment.
2Refuel the chassis to the same level it was at pickup. Note your odometer and fuel reading for handoff.
3Empty all personal food and trash from the fridge and cabinets. Wipe down counters, the sink, the stove, and the bathroom.
4Retract the awning, lock all compartments, close windows, and turn off the propane tank before returning the keys.

Pro Tips

✦Arrive at campsites by mid afternoon. Leveling blocks, hookups, and awning setup take longer than you expect in fading light.
✦Fill the fresh water tank before leaving a serviced campsite so you have a buffer for dry camping or unexpected delays.
✦Place a small rug inside the entry door to catch sand and dirt. It saves the floor and makes the return cleaning much faster.
